Differencia

Click on any screenshot to bring up a larger version.

Once you have clicked on one screenshot, you can navigate through the remainder without having to close each one.

Running a diff or comparison:

• Select two files to compare / diff
• Select Comparison > Run Comparison

One Time Configuration

• Map fields to be compared using drag and drop
• Select Identify fields to match records

Reviewing comparison results:

• Differences clearly highlighted
• Missing Record differences highlighted with a different color to field diffs
• Highlight colors can be set in Differencia's Preferences

Highlighting individual diffs:

• Click on any difference to display matching record & field in both files
• Right click, or Select Window > Difference Inspector to display difference inspector HUD window

Focusing on differences:

Filter results to:

• Display All Records or just Difference Records
• Display All Fields, Compared Fields or just Difference Fields

Collated / Interleaved Results:

• Click on "Collate Results" to display matching records together
• Each record from the first file is displayed with its matching record on the next row in the table
• Missing records from each file are highlighted with different colors

Editing File Formats:

Differencia will normally correctly identify file formats. To fine tune:

• Click on "Edit" Button in Set-up View
• Review Layout Details, e.g., text encoding or number of header rows
• Get pre-configured Layouts from the Online Template Database

Editing Fixed Width Formats:

• Click on "Edit Fixed Width Positions"
• Click below the line in the ruler to add a new column at that position
• Drag a marker off the ruler to delete the colukmn
• Drag markers along the ruler to change the column's position

Editing Field Formats:

• Click on a column in the example file table to edit field details
• Review Field Details, e.g., data type or data format
• Click "Show Example File Raw Data" to see data as it appears in the file

Navigation & History

• The sidebar displays a history of run comparisons with dates and diff counts.
• Status indiator highlights comparisons with differences.

Rerunning Comparisons

• Clicking on the status indicator to re-run a comparison with the original files.
Holding ALT when clicking keeps the results of the original comparison.
