Working with Fixed Width Format Files

To Use Fixed Width File in Comparisons:

Fixed Width files can be used normally in comparisons. Simply select the file and Differencia will automatically identify field boundaries. The fields for the file will appear normally in the Set-up View and can be mapped for comparison as normal.

To edit a Fixed Width Layout:

1. Select the the Set-up View by clicking on "Set-up" at the top of the main window.
2. Open your fixed with file by choosing File > Open... and selecting your file. Hit Open in the File Open Dialog.
3. Click on the Edit button next to the file you have selected. The view will move to the Layout View.
4. Select the "Show Example File Raw Data / Edit Fixed Width Positions" checkbox. A Ruler displaying the positions of each field in the fixed width file will be displayed along with the contents of your file.
5. To Add a new field / column: Click on the ruler, below the horizontal line at the desired position.
6. To Remove an existing field / column: Identify the marker on the ruler at the start of the field you want to remove. Click and drag the down arrow off the ruler to remove the field.
7. To Move an existing field / column: Click and drag the marker at the start of the field to the desired position on the ruler.
8. The position of each field can be set in the Field Details by clicking on the desired field and changing the value of the "Position" field.
